Many people believe that simply breaking a sweat constitutes bettering their fitness level, riding a stationary bike or eliptical machine while reading the newspaper or watching tv. For some exercising is another check off the daily list. At STICKS we offer people an elite level training program based on CrossFit principles. Our members train like athletes. Athletes train with a purpose. We do this simply because it works! We focus on functional training and athletic movements that parallel real life activity. Our training will challenge you at the core!
Personal Training/Personal Group Training
Our certified instructors offer personalized training designed get people moving more efficiently, stronger with improved range of motion in order to live your life better. We breakdown basic barbell/dumbbell/kettlebell exercises. Along with the skill and strength aspect of the training sessions we also include metabolic conditioning. This is where people will find out how good or poor their current fitness level is.
Everything we teach goes back to the basic formula of core to extremity. We do not do arm curls, leg extensions or seated lateral raises to target specific areas of the body. We focus on multiple joint exercises. We utilize exercises that require core strength. These are functional and useful in your everyday life whether you are a stay-at-home mom or an elite level athlete.
These sessions will also prepare people to join the personal group classes. These WOD Classes are 1 hour long and incorporate many different training modalities. The classes are taught by an instructor. Our instructors do not "workout" with the class as teaching, motivating, coaching and reminding of the movements/skills are required. The WOD Classes are a continuation of the personal training into a group format-Personal Group Training.
Team Atmosphere
Our WOD Classes are group based. We train in a group setting that involves a dynamic warm up, skill session, WOD and a warm down. The instructors will teach and coach throughout the class but our members are required to set up and put back all the equipment. Some gyms have trainers that walk their trainee through the session by guiding them from station to station while making small talk between exercises. We empower our members to not only set up and break down appropriate equipment but also to fully understand how to perform each exercise. Our members are also taught how to appropriately scale and modify in order to challenge but not overwhelm.
This has a great feeling of empowerment and accomplishment. Imagine going through a training session and not understanding how and why what you are doing is beneficial to your overall health. Going from one station to the next and finishing with "abs" or a ride on a machine is mindless and boring. People should not only be performing fundamental, functional exercises but should understand how it will benefit their lives.
We train in a dynamic setting with a team atmosphere. People help and encourage each other throughout the hour long training session. People of varying fitness levels can train in the same gym doing the same workout with varying weights and equipments. This adds motivation, friendship and a team atmosphere to our training session. Anyone who has played team sports understand the value in this. People are more dedicated and supportive in a team atmosphere.
