Thursday we did our benchmark FRAN. We had three of our lady members in our 9:30 am class write Rx on the board for the WOD. This is only two letters but it means much more. We at Crossfit Brighton know that building up to Rx is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations to the ladies.

Below that is a group photo with Ron Warhurst. Ron has been a running coach at U of M for 37 years and has coached many of the top runners in the world. He has a wealth of knowledge from years of coaching. We are in the process of setting up a running clinic with Ron. Stay tuned for the times and dates.

Crossfit Games are in Week 5. There is one more WOD to go. You can view the results from athletes around the world competing at Crossfit Games Open. If you think you are fit then check out the weekly WOD, grab the necessary equipment and prove it.

We at Crossfit Brighton are having our own informal games. If you and a partner want to compete then notify us at info@crossfitbrighton.com. We can set up a Saturday late afternoon WOD time. The WOD will unknown so prepare for anything. Both men and women can apply. If you think you are fitter than the current champs then prove it.

Today's workout is the Crossfit Games Open WOD 11.4.

This is the 5th week of the Games. The Crossfit Games is a competition in the sport of fitness. Athletes from around the world are able to test their performance against the elite. There are four main categories of competition including Men/Women/Team/Masters. The top 60 qualifiers in each of the region go to the Regionals. Athletes are judged and held to a specific set of standards to ensure uniformity across Crossfit's population.

Clean & Jerk: Performing Olympic lifts require strength, power, speed, balance and coordination. It is a phenomenal movement for athletes as a way to increase their on the field performance. It is also a great movement for everyone to increase their general fitness levels.

These types of exercises are complex and require many hours of practice to properly and safely perform the movement. It is a core to extremity movement that mimics real world movements.

Breaking down the Clean & Jerk into parts helps teach the lifts in a progressive manner. Keep the bar over your feet, don't pull early with the arms and obtain full range of motion are all points of emphasis. One member said she learned how to Clean by bailing hay as a youngster.

This was the third WOD in the Crossfit Games Open. We have a handful of members at CFB that have joined Hyperfit in this competition.
