The Difference
Check out the videos below. One of the main differences is the quality and detail of instruction we offer to our members. We don't just point them into the direction and wish them good luck.

We teach people how to move and move weight in a safe and efficient manner. We also hold people to a high set of standards. Increased range of motion, proper form, picking a weight that is challenging but not overwhelming and motivation are all aspect of our training that we hold in high regard.

MORE THAN JUST A GYM @ C.F.B.

We have dumbbells, kettlebells and barbells. We have a pull up aparatus along with rings for ring rows/dips and other gymnastic tools. We also throw weighted balls up against the walls and jump on boxes. We are a gym.

But we are more than just a gym. Our members forge friendships. We congregate outside of the gym to run a race, ski a hill or have a good time at a watering hole. Our members congratulate each other when one of the kids gets accepted to a college or a person is hired to a new job. We share our experiences with each other.

We have trainers that teach and motivate. We have members that not only work hard but are driven, set goals and help other achieve theirs. They come in the gym and look for the challenge. We do have weights and gym stuff but there is more to it. This is also a place where people find out what they are made of. How many times have you pushed yourself to the limit to the point of questioning your mettle?

People challenge themselves in different ways. Our members push their physical and mental limits daily. They are more resilient and develop an intestinal fortitude
that was previously hidden. People get physically stronger and better conditioned in our gym but they also get mentally freakin' tough.

Modifying vs. Cheating

We did an Intro the other day with a person that wanted to sample our training.

During the Intro process we describe the Crossfit training philosophy, answer questions regarding the training and allow the person to go through a brief workout. During the workout we explain and demonstrate how we modify certain exercises. Every exercise performed had the ability to be modified. On the push ups, I explained that a proper modification is to have knees on the ground while maintaining proper range of motion and a secure mid-line. She jokingly said “cheating”.

Modifying exercises is a way to allow people of different strengths and abilities to train safely and effectively. There is a difference between short changing the range of motion requirements and scaling an exercise properly.

Pushups

Modifying Push Ups: knees on the ground maintaining mid-line stability. down position is with elbows at a position higher than shoulder joint coming up to a locked out position at top.

Cheating Push Ups: toes on ground, reaching down with forehead with insufficient arm bend or not locking out.

We teach people how to properly modify exercises in order to continue reaching for a greater range of motion while and gradually getting stronger to reduce the amount of modifications necessary.
